2007 WSOP Event #55: $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em World Championship

WSOP, 2007-07-18, by Ozone

In perhaps an unrivaled showing of dominance at a WSOP Main Event Final Table, Jerry Yang eliminated all eight of his opponents yesterday and captured the title of 2007 World Champion. Yang, an American, won $8,250,000, which moved him into 7th place on the all-time tournament winnings list. This was his first money finish in a major poker tournament. Last year's champion, Jamie Gold, retains a $1.5 million lead over Daniel Negreanu on the all-time winnings list.

Yang's final knockout was dealt to Canadian internet qualifier Tuan Lam. Second place earned Lam $4,840,000. South African player Raymond Rahme came up just short on his guarantee to take a World Championship back to Africa; he finished 3rd, good for $3,048,000.

Philip Hilm came into the day as the chipleader and blazed out in 9th place on just the 15th hand of play at the final table.

This World Series Final Table made good on its "world" label. Six different countries were represented by the nine final table participants. Here is a rundown of the final table finishers, their payouts, as well as their nationality:
